"오마르와 동방전력“은 모로코, 이집트, 한국의 문화를 잇는 환상적인 사운드를 들려주는 매혹적인 밴드이다. 사헬 지역과 아프로비트의 영향을 한국의 요소와 결합하여 새로운 사운드를 만들어낸다. 아프리카와 한국의 리듬과 전통적인 현악기들, 그리고 감미로운 선율이 그들의 영감의 기반이 되며, 그들의 음악은 경계를 넘어 다양한 전통을 조화롭게 표현하며. 사이키델릭한 분위기와 뿌리음악의 그루브가 함께 어우러지는 음악여행속에 그들의 예술적인 비젼이 보여준다. 2016년 결성이후 Walking Miles(2018), Sunshine/Htalen (2021)의 발매와 함께 모로코의 Visa for Music 페스티벌을 포함한 북아프리카 투어를 성공적으로 마쳤다. 사하라사막 유목부족의 애수와 모로코 그나와음악의 경계없는 트랜스를 한국의 신명으로 만나보자. all tribes, all cultures are welcome.
오마르와 동방전력은 한국에서 활동하는 다국적 밴드이다. 그 멤버들의 출신만큼이나 다양한 음악으로부터 영향을 받았는데, 월드 뮤직, 특히 북아프리카의 사헬 지방(사하라 사막부터 남쪽 수단 지역에 이르는 영역을 뜻함)의 음악과 덥이나 아프로 비트 같은 음악의 영향을 크게 받았다. 멤버 각자가 모두 다른 음악과 문화적 배경을 가지고 있으며 그러한 것들이 모두 모여 이들의 음악에 직접적으로 나타난다. 모로코 출신인 오마르(Omar)와 이집트 출신인 와일(Wael)은 10년 전 그들의 모국인 북아프리카를 떠나 한국에 정착하기까지 그들과는 다른 문화, 생활, 음악을 접하고 경험하였다. 밴드는 어느 날 갑자기 생겨났다. 오마르의 곡에 와일의 리듬이 만나 항해가 시작되었다. 그들의 음악적인 길은 의심할 것 없이 같은 방향을 행해 있었다. 그 후 제주 출신 기타리스트 오진우(전 윈디시티, 솔로 활동)와 전라도출신 베이시스트 태히언(레게 뮤지션, 싱어송라이터 활동)이 밴드에 합류하여 밴드 사운드에 조화를 이루기 시작하였고, 더 나아가 다양한 음악 스펙트럼이 펼쳐지면서 현재의 유니크한 밴드 사운드를 이루어냈다. 요즘 같은 글로벌 시대, 많은 사람들이 전 세계를 여행하고 다양한 문화 속에서 함께 문화 융합을 만들어가는 시대에서 중요한 것은 스스로를 한쪽으로만 얽매지 않는 것이다. 밴드 동방전력의 음악은 뮤지션의 삶과 외지인으로써 겪게 되는 다양한 경험과 애환이 담긴 이야기들의 반영이다.

작고 오래된 그 집에서 영감을 받은 오마르는 노래를 만들기 시작했고, 얼마 후 와일이 그 위에 리듬을 더하게 되었다. 그 이후 기타리스트 오진우와 베이시스트 태히언이 합류하면서 오마르와 동방전력이 새로운 국면을 맞이하게 되었다. 그들 노래의 이면에는 자유, 고독, 노동, 신명이 깔려있다.
Omar & The Eastern Power are a live music band based in Korea inspired by world music, especially music of the Sahel, North African grooves and other influences like Dub and Afro Beat. The band members come from Morocco, Egypt and Korea. Each band member has different musical and social backgrounds which have direct influences on their music. Omar (Morocco) and Wael (Egypt) left their home countries in north Africa 10 years ago, since then they have experienced various different cultures, lifestyles and music. The band formed when they crossed paths in Korea, it was without question that their intentions were the same. Omar had a couple of songs that he wrote and Wael put rhythms to them then the ship was sailing. Afterwards Korean Guitarist Oh Jinwoo and Bassist Tehiun joined the band, the music became more balanced and the band's spectrum widened into a unique musical fusion. In a globalized world where people can travel and live in different societies it's important not to put yourself in a box and play just one kind of music. The genre of the Eastern Power is a reflection of the musicians' life and their experience as migrants in a foreign country with all the happiness, sadness, hard work and love that this requires. The band's debut Album "Walking Miles" was released in 2018. The songs were written by Omar Benassila and express his personal experiences. The other three band members played an important part in the arrangement and production of the album.
